Which charger?
The charger that came with your car
Most of my installs. It’s made for your car and is usually the simplest option.
Evnex smart chargers
If you’re buying a charger, I like Evnex. They’re smart, solar-ready home chargers designed in New Zealand, with an app to schedule and track charging.
What affects the install
Every home is set up differently, so I quote each install individually, and quotes are free. The main things that affect it are:
- How far the charger will be from your switchboard (the cable run)
- Whether your switchboard has room and the right protection for a new circuit
- Single- or three-phase power
- Where it’s mounted — garage wall, carport post or driveway
- Whether you want to charge from solar

Common questions
Which charger should I get?
Most of my installs are the charger that came with the car, and that’s usually the simplest option. If you’re buying one, I like Evnex: smart, solar-ready chargers that are well made and easy to use.
Do I need three-phase power?
No. Most homes on the Peninsula are single-phase and charge an EV overnight without any trouble. If you already have three-phase, some cars and chargers can use it to charge faster.
Will my switchboard need upgrading?
Sometimes. An EV charger needs its own circuit, and older boards may not have room or the right protection. A photo of your board helps me check this before I quote. See switchboard upgrades.
Can I charge from my solar?
Some chargers, including Evnex, can use your excess solar to charge the car. Mention you have solar in the quote form and I’ll factor it in.
Where can the charger go?
Usually on a garage wall or carport post close to where you park. The further it is from the switchboard, the longer the cable run, which is why the quote form asks about distance.
