Signs your switchboard needs an upgrade
- Old ceramic fuses you have to rewire, instead of circuit breakers
- No safety switches, or only one that doesn’t cover the whole house
- Breakers or the safety switch trip often
- Scorch marks, buzzing or a burning smell at the board — call me straight away
- Your insurer, bank or a building inspection has flagged it
- You’re renovating or adding an EV charger, battery or new circuits and the board is full

What affects the price
Every board is different, so I quote each job individually, and quotes are free. The main things that affect the price are:
- How many circuits the house has
- Whether the meter panel or enclosure also needs replacing
- The condition of the existing wiring — faults found in testing need fixing before new safety switches will hold
- Single- or three-phase power
- How easy the board is to get to

Common questions
Do I have to upgrade my switchboard?
Not always. If your board has old ceramic fuses, no safety switches, or it’s tripping or showing heat damage, an upgrade is usually the safest fix. Send me a photo and I’ll tell you straight whether it needs doing.
How long will the power be off?
It depends on the size of the board and what I find. I’ll give you a time frame with your quote so you can plan around it.
Will I get a certificate?
Yes. In Victoria, electrical installation work needs a Certificate of Electrical Safety, and you’ll get one when the job’s done.
Do I need an upgrade before an EV charger or battery?
Sometimes. Older boards often don’t have the space or protection needed for a new circuit. If you’re planning an EV charger or battery, mention it in the quote form and I’ll check the board for it at the same time.
Why do you need a photo of my switchboard?
It shows me the type of board, how much space there is and its condition, so I can quote accurately without an extra trip out.
